VOLUNTEERING is an excellent way to contribute to our centre.

Like all not for profit organizations, we depend on the support and dedication of our volunteers to help us accomplish all that we do. Our volunteers are often our members, consumers, staff, students, family and friends who are interested in achieving the goals of our organization.

EVENTS AND DISPLAYS

Special events rely on the skills and dedication of a number of volunteers. Tasks may include participating prior to the event by being on a planning committee, assisting with fund raising or acquiring gifts in kind to help offset costs. Perhaps you may enjoy helping out on the day of the event itself with setting up and/or dismantling the event, greeting and registrations, serving refreshments or whatever is needed.

Display opportunities can arise during various community events. The ILCWR display is an attractive exhibit that highlights our programs and services. Volunteers are essential to giving some "life" to our display. Volunteers are needed 2-3 times a year for these occasions. If you are familiar with our centre and it's programs and would like to help out, please contact us.

KIDS ON THE BLOCK - PUPPETEERING

ILCWR is proud to provide the Kids on the Block disability awareness program to area schools, churches and community groups. Since 1982 volunteer puppeteers have been essential to the provision of this program. Kids on the Block is a troupe of disabled and non-disabled puppets who demonstrate the importance of a positive attitude. Puppeteers are trained to make presentations using large hand and rod puppets with specially prepared scripts.

Commitment of 2-3 hours weekly or bi-weekly is required for training and presentations. Contact the Kids on the Block Coordinator for application information.

MEMBERSHIP DRIVE

Membership is essential to our organization. Each year volunteers are invited to consider showing their support in this way. Active members volunteer to make telephone calls to a list of individuals who might consider membership. Through this annual drive we are able to communicate about our centre and hear from our members in return.

Our membership drive is done in November - please contact us if you are interested in helping out.
