Tuesday, July 30, 2013   A recent mail out from the Conservative party used unreadable braille to boast the party's success in enabling accessibility for persons living with disability. The flyer was highlighting the government's efforts to help people with disabilities enter the workforce; unfortunately the braille lettering was not raised on the page making it useless to the visually impaired. Tuesday, July 30, 2013   Wheelchair using passenger Baraka Kanaan was forced to crawl off a Delta flight while attendants watched. Despite Baraka giving the airline advanced notice of his need for accommodations and the airline assuring him accommodations could be given for his disability he was still forced to crawl off the plane twice. The flight attendant’s claimed that the reason they did not help the passenger and only watched was because they were "fearful of liability". They have created a program where performers living with disabilities come together to create several stage performances. The push is to bring more diversity onto the stage and share different lived experiences; the goal is to share stories about disability from a person living with a disabilities view. Wednesday, July 24, 2013   An interesting article was posted on The Record.com highlighting two families, both with sons living with disabilities, and their struggle to get support in the schooling system. "It's a constant battle to get what you need", said our own Paula Saunders, these parents constantly battle with the system to fight for their children to be integrated in the school day and be kept in their home community. Thursday, July 11, 2013   A company called MyVoice Inc. had announced that people in Ontario with speech disabilities can now receive the company's TalkRocket Go communication aid app, along with an iPad or iPod touch at just a quarter of the cost, thanks Ontario Ministry of Health. Already, TalkRocket Go has helped thousands of Canadians with speech disabilities communicate out loud. They were awarded the Bolotin Award for achieving full integration of blind people into society and meeting the highest standard of accessibility in their software. Desire2Learn has decided to invest further in the community with a new 10 year accessibility program designed to encourage development of accessible tools and solutions.
