Wednesday, August 3, 2011 ILCWR Consumer and Board Member Greg Moore has announced plans to take road trip of a lifetime, across the United States to the American Southwest. Moore is seeking a travel companion for the journey, and has already received well over 1,000 hits to his ad on Kijiji! While the adventure will be great fun, Greg will also be on the lookout for a place he might settle in the winter months to avoid the harsh and often inaccessible winter. Friday, July 8, 2011 For the second time this week, the Independent Living Centre of Waterloo Region has a staff member appearing in the Waterloo Region Record. Today, it is Executive Assistant Andrew Posen, with an opinion column calling attention to funding inequities in Ontario Works and the Ontario Disability Support Program, the two major sources of Social Assistance in Ontario. Friday, July 8, 2011 Kitchener-based IT firm Dolphin Digital has been recognized with a Canadian Innovator of the Year award at the Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters national forum in Ottawa.  The company provides network support, mostly to non-profit organizations, and has a staff of eight employees, all of whom are individuals with disabilities. Wednesday, July 6, 2011 Harley Kaufmann-Sacrey, the newest member of the Independent Living Centre of Waterloo Region family, was featured in the Waterloo Region Record today as the recipient of the Carol Shantz Bursary Award.  The honour, which is bestowed annually by KidsAbility, will be used toward Harley's undergraduate program in legal studies at the University of Waterloo. This summer, Harley is the resident Events Planner at ILCWR, a role which primarily involves handling the preliminary planning stages of the Access 2012 TradeShow.
