The Waterloo Region Record has published an article on the social struggles experienced by some young people with disabilities when they reach their teens.

53% of surveyed parents who have a child with a disability reported their child as having 0-1 friends.  This is due in large part to a lack of community programs and services for kids with disabilities when they reach their teen years.

The Independent Living Centre of Waterloo Region's Youth in Transition program brings young people of all abilities together at weekly sessions to foster social networks for its participants.  For more information, contact Sandy at sandys@ilcwr.org.
