The deadline for compliance with the Accessible Customer Service standard is fast approaching, with the January 1, 2012 date looming just three months ahead.

The standard, which is the first of five under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, mandates that all businesses in the private sector must train their employees on how to provide accessible customer service for customers with disabilities.

Since the Independent Living Centre of Waterloo Region provides this training, customizable for any business, through its Beyond Barriers program, ILCWR Executive Director Bil Smith was interviewed for the article, which brings this important legislation to the attention of business owners throughout the region.
