The In-Home Respite program is designed to provide relief to friends or relatives who are acting as the primary caregiver for someone with a physical disability.
Our In-Home Respite attendants are happy to step in so that primary caregivers can attend appointments, run errands, or simply take some time to relax.
In-Home Respite program is used less frequently as a means of relieving individuals who already act as primary caregivers.
Eligible In-Home Respite consumers receive up to 150 hours per year, which are booked on a first come, first served basis. The consumer is requiered to have personal care needs during the visit in order to qualify. The service can be used both by individuals who are new to the Independent Living Centre of Waterloo Region, and existing consumers of our attendant services.
Respite consumers may request service for the timeframe that best suits their needs, with a 1-hour minimum. These hours can be pre-scheduled and ongoing, or booked occasionally for a temporary period of time. Please note that service provision is also based on attendant availability.
Anyone is eligible to apply for the program, as long as they answer “yes” to all of the following questions:
- Are you a person with a permanent physical disability?
- Do you require personal care?
- Are you 16 years of age or older?
- Do you have a valid Ontario Health Card?
- Are you able to direct your own attendant services?
